Magogo’s Warning Realized as Uganda Drops in FIFA Rankings

Uganda slips in latest FIFA rankings | FUFA Image

Uganda has dropped one place to 88th in the latest FIFA rankings, a slight decline from October’s position of 87th.

This follows the conclusion of the Uganda Cranes’ 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Despite securing a 1-0 away victory against Congo Brazzaville, a 2-0 loss to South Africa at Namboole Stadium impacted the team’s global standing.

The defeat to South Africa underscored FUFA President Moses Magogo’s warning about the importance of securing wins to boost rankings.

Uganda has also dropped in the CAF rankings, falling from 18th to 19th.

A Mixed Year for Uganda Cranes

The Uganda Cranes have shown flashes of brilliance during the 2024 season, but inconsistency remains a challenge.

The win against Congo Brazzaville demonstrated resilience, but the loss to South Africa highlighted gaps in preparation.

Head coach Paul Joseph Put will need to address these issues ahead of future competitions.

Regional and Global Context

Globally, Argentina retained the top spot as the best footballing nation, while Morocco remains Africa’s highest-ranked team.

Uganda’s slight drop in rankings reflects the competitive nature of global football, where even minor losses have repercussions.

The next FIFA rankings, scheduled for December 14, will finalize the year’s classifications.

This will be an opportunity for Uganda to assess its progress and set goals for 2025.

Key Highlights:

Uganda falls to 88th globally and 19th in Africa.

The Cranes concluded their AFCON qualifiers with mixed results.

Global leaders remain unchanged, with Argentina and Morocco leading.

The rankings serve as a call for renewed focus as Uganda prepares for upcoming tournaments.
