The Uganda Senior Women’s National Football Team, the Crested Cranes, has returned to the country following their international friendlies against Algeria.
The team faced tough competition, losing both matches 2-1 and 1-0, respectively, in the two fixtures held on November 27th and 30th, 2024.
In the first encounter, the Crested Cranes put up a spirited fight but were edged out 2-1.
Midfielder Joan Nabirye of FC Spartak Women netted the only goal for Uganda. In the second game, the team fell short with a 1-0 defeat, unable to find the back of the net.
FUFA President Moses Magogo revealed that the international friendlies were a deliberate effort by FUFA to promote women’s football in Uganda. He pledged that Uganda would have many of such friendlies as they develop the women’s team.
The Crested Cranes faced DRC in a doubleheader during the October international break.
FUFA also plans to introduce the ‘Cranes Na Mutima’ version of Women football to unearth footballing talent among the girls across the country.
