While flagging off runners for this year’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) run held in Lugogo yesterday, first deputy prime minister Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga called for action as part of efforts to ensure climate justice.
This year’s run focused on increasing awareness about the SDGs and saw participants compete in 5,10 and 17km distances across various parts of Kampala.
“We enacted a law to gazette a day in the year for tree planting which has not been done. Countries like Ethiopia and Costa Rica have set the example and we can do the same.”
“We have a 2030 goal which we aim to achieve and this is one of the activities.”
With focus on achieving the 17 SDGs by 2030, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) along with other partners organized the run under the theme, “Partnership for the goal.”
Since 2017, the SDG run has united Ugandans under the cause of action to achieve the UN sustainable development goals.
