Uganda Cranes forward Jude Ssemugabi marked his return to Kitara in style, scoring twice in a resounding 6-0 win over Mbale Heroes at Royals Park, Butema.
Ssemugabi had missed Kitara’s previous games, including a 4-0 victory over UPDF and a goalless draw against Vipers.
Speculation about his absence ranged from injury to possible trials with other clubs.
However, the striker put all rumors to rest with a brilliant performance, scoring in the 46th and 87th minutes while also providing an assist, taking his season tally to four goals.
On the other hand, his strike partner Denis Omedi remains absent.
Omedi, nominated for both the FIFA Puskas Award and the CAF Goal of the Year, is reportedly in Spain, amid interest from clubs in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Fred Amaku also had a standout game, scoring a penalty in the 27th minute before netting his second in the 57th.
George Ssenkaaba and Marvin Nnyanzi rounded off the scoring, with Nnyanzi registering his first goal for Kitara.
This was Kitara’s second win at their new home ground and their second victory under head coach Wasswa Bbosa.
The Royals have now secured three wins this season, moving out of the relegation zone to 13th place with 11 points from 11 games.
Mbale Heroes, however, remain 14th with eight points from the same number of matches.
Kitara will look to build on this performance when they travel to Luzira to face Maroons on December 12, while Mbale Heroes head to Bombo to take on UPDF on December 11.
In other Uganda Premier League action, defending champions SC Villa were held to a 1-1 draw by Lugazi at Wankulukuku.
Charles Lwanga gave Villa the lead in the 14th minute, taking his tally to eight goals as the league’s leading scorer, but Abdul Kalanzi equalized for Lugazi in the 55th minute.
