Express’ Badru Kaddu and Herbert Achai are set to return to Lugogo for Saturday’s Kampala Derby between KCCA and Express in the Uganda Premier League.
Kaddu, who is currently the interim head coach of Express, previously worked under Mike Mutebi and Morley Byekwaso at KCCA.
He briefly took over as KCCA’s caretaker manager after Byekwaso’s resignation but only managed one game, which ended in a 2-0 defeat to URA.
Ahead of the game, Kaddu expressed confidence, emphasizing the importance of an entertaining and winning performance from Express.
“We are pushing for an entertaining and winning game as Express, and that’s exactly what we’ll aim for against KCCA,”he said.
He also highlighted the rivalry aspect of the match, acknowledging that both teams will be fighting for bragging rights and that Express players are determined to secure a top position.
“It’s a rivalry game; both teams will be battling for bragging rights, and we approach it knowing we deserve to be at the top. It’s in the mind of every player.”
Kaddu has yet to lose a game as the interim coach of Express, having led the team to victories over Villa (1-0), Mbarara City (3-1), and drawn against BUL and Wakiso Giants.
Similarly, Achai, who was part of KCCA under Mutebi, left at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Emmanuel Wasswa and Sam Ssenyonjo are the other Express players who have previously played for KCCA.
Heading into the match, KCCA holds third place with 19 points, just three ahead of Express in fifth place with 16 points.
Express won their last visit to Lugogo 2-1, while KCCA has struggled with a three-game winless streak.
However, KCCA will welcome back key players Derrick Nsibambi and Shafik Nana Kwikiriza, who have been sidelined due to injury and school commitments, respectively.
