The StarTimes Uganda Premier League is set to ignite as arch-rivals KCCA and Express face off in a highly anticipated Kampala derby at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Saturday, December 7th, at 7:00 PM.
KCCA, aiming to return to winning ways after a three-game winless streak, will be eager to reclaim top form.
Express, despite a recent victory over Mbarara City, have struggled on the road this season, drawing three and losing one away from home.
KCCA boast an impressive defensive record at home, conceding only once in five matches. In contrast, Express have been more vulnerable away from home, conceding six goals in four games.
The historical rivalry is intense, with KCCA holding a slight edge in past encounters (12 wins to Express’ 5). However, 14 draws highlight the competitive nature of these clashes.
KCCA enter the derby after a draw with Lugazi, while Express secured a 3-1 win over Mbarara City.
Peter Magambo returns to training, while Shafik Nana Kiwkiriza and young goalkeeper Humphrey Oyirwoth are available after completing their exams.
However, Derrick Nsibambi is ruled out with a hamstring injury. Ibrahim Juma, Abubaker Mayanja, Elvis Mwanje, and Filbert Obenchan are also sidelined due to injuries. Hassan Muhamud is suspended.
KCCA Head Coach Abdallah Mubiru emphasized the importance of mental fortitude: “These kinds of games are not about which team is on top but which team wants it most. We need to be on top of our game to overcome them (Express) in the derby. We need to be clinical enough and convert our chances.”
