Defending champions Kawempe Muslim LFC returned to winning ways with a dramatic 1-0 stoppage-time victory over Uganda Martyrs on Saturday in the Finance Trust FUFA Women Super League.
After two consecutive away draws against Amus College and Lady Doves, Kawempe’s late heroics away at the Coffee Grounds in Bugolobi ensured they secured the maximum points to maintain their unbeaten run and retain the top spot on the league table.
The decisive moment came in the 90th minute, courtesy of last season’s MVP and top scorer, Agnes Nabukenya, who slotted home the winner to secure three crucial points for the Valley Warriors.
With this result, Kawempe now boast of 20 points from eight games, affirming their status as league leaders.
Uganda Martyrs Lubaga, however, continue to struggle this season.
The Lubaga-based side have only managed one win in eight games and remain 9th in the 12-team table with just seven points.
Elsewhere, Kampala Queens FC earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tooro Queens, keeping up the chase on Kawempe at the top.
The Queens, now on 18 points, extended their winning streak to four games, keeping them firmly in second place.
Zainah Nandede opened the scoring for Kampala Queens in the 13th minute before captain Shamirah Nalugya doubled the advantage in the 30th minute.
Tooro Queens, however, struck back through Masitulah Atuhaire just before halftime, setting up a tense second half. Despite their efforts, Tooro Queens could not breach the resilient Kampala defense again, as the match ended 2-1.
In another fixture, Makerere University and Olila High School shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
Both teams showcased spirited performances but neither was able to secure a decisive victory.
With the league heating up, all eyes remain on the battle at the summit as Kawempe Muslim and Kampala Queens continue to vie for supremacy.
