Imran Sekagya, the son of Ugandan football icon and former national team captain Ibrahim Sekagya, has been named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Third Team.
Currently a senior at Thomas Jefferson University, the younger Sekagya’s achievement underscores his dual excellence in academics and soccer, cementing his reputation as a promising talent.
Imran, who began his journey with the New York Red Bulls Academy U17 and U19 teams, continues to make strides in the sport.
His time at the academy honed his technical skills and tactical understanding, aligning him with the legacy of his father, who captained the Uganda Cranes and enjoyed a decorated career in international football.
The Rams’ soccer program, where Imran has played a pivotal role, has a strong reputation for balancing athletic excellence with academic rigor.
Sekagya is only the second player in the program’s history to earn Academic All-America honors, joining Val Mokrejs, who was recognized in 2020.
Imran’s recognition as the only Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) athlete to make the CSC Academic All-America team brings pride to Uganda, where football fans are eager for the next chapter of Sekagya’s story.
It remains to be seen if he will follow in his father’s footsteps and don the Cranes jersey in the future.
