FIVE PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN THE UPCOMING AFCON

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set the stage for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, announcing that the highly anticipated final draw will take place on January 27, 2025, in Rabat, Morocco.

This announcement followed a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in Marrakech on Monday, December 16, 2024, chaired by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.

The 35th edition of Africa’s premier football competition is scheduled to kick off on December 21, 2025, with the opening match, and the final set for January 18, 2026.

The tournament will feature 24 of Africa’s best national teams competing for continental supremacy in a country that has become synonymous with football excellence.

At the Exco meeting, Morocco was lauded for its exceptional infrastructure and organizational capabilities.

It recently secured co-hosting rights for the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal and Spain, further solidifying its reputation as a global football hub.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Motsepe congratulated Morocco on its growing influence in football, highlighting the significance of hosting both AFCON and the World Cup in the coming years.

Morocco’s preparations for AFCON 2025 are well underway, with state-of-the-art stadiums, top-tier facilities, and logistical systems in place to welcome teams and fans from across the continent.

The host nation is expected to use venues such as the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, and other key locations to deliver an unforgettable tournament.

This will be the second time Morocco hosts the AFCON, having previously staged the competition in 1988.

The 2025 edition promises to be a celebration of African football, with fans eagerly anticipating the opportunity to witness some of the continent’s brightest stars in action.

Uganda qualified for the 2025 edition of AFCON after missing the previous two editions. The final draw in January 2025 will determine who the Cranes will meet at the group stage, setting the tone for what promises to be a thrilling tournament.
