As the postponed 2024 African Nations Championship edges closer, preparations continue in the host nations of Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya.
The latest development reveals that Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, will be one of the training grounds for the tournament.
Renovation work has already begun to bring it up to international standards.
According to Kawowo Sports, floodlights will be installed at Wankulukuku.
However, the immediate focus is on upgrading the dressing rooms, VIP stand, and washrooms.
Kawowo further reports that the UPDF Engineering Brigade, which is also overseeing work at Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) and Kyambogo University training grounds, is responsible for the renovations at Wankulukuku as well.
With the tournament fast approaching and tight timelines, some training grounds originally planned have been dropped.
Kyambogo will not be ready due to ongoing construction, while Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso and the African Bible University in Lubowa have been abandoned due to their distance and traffic challenges.
As a result, the confirmed training grounds in Uganda are Wankulukuku, Kadiba, Kampala International School Uganda (KISU), and the Namboole outside pitch.
CHAN 2024 will begin on February 1st, 2025, and conclude on February 28th, 2025.
