The Executive of CAVB Zone V has announced Kampala, Uganda, as the host City of the 2025 Zonal Club Championship.
The annual event that was postponed from 2024 will be hosted in conjunction with the Uganda Volleyball Federation.
The week-long event will be held from 16th to 23rd February 2025 at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
This will be the first regional event after Uganda’s Sadik Nasiwu took over the reign of the regional body from Rwanda’s Fernand Ruterana during the 2024 CAVB Congress in Morocco.
“We received bids from Rwanda and Uganda, and a decision was made to award it to Uganda”, said Sadik Nasiwu, CAVB Zone V President.
The competition will be held according to the following calendar.
- Arrival and Technical meeting 16th February 2025
- Competition days 17th – 22nd February 2025
- Departure 23rd February 2025
Rwanda National Police (Men) and Kenya Pipeline Corporation (Women) are the defending Champions of the event, which was hosted by Rwanda in November 2023.
The 3 top teams from the 12 countries all qualify for the championship, with exceptions made to the defending Champions, where 4 teams can make entries.
Uganda is not new to hosting international events, in 2019 when Kampala hosted the All-Africa games qualifiers for women while a similar attempt to host the 2020 Women’s U-20 African Nations championship was eaten up by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
CAVB Zone V consists of 12 Countries, Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda
