Mbale Heroes has announced the immediate suspension of their head coach, Asaph Mwebaze, over allegations of professional misconduct and unethical behavior.
The decision, communicated through an official letter dated December 27, 2024, comes after multiple complaints were lodged against the coach regarding his interactions with fans and club leadership.
Reasons for Suspension
According to the club’s statement, the allegations against Mwebaze include:
Attacking top leadership and fans on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter).
Using offensive gestures, such as the middle finger, during and after the game against Vipers FC at Mbale Stadium.
Engaging in inappropriate exchanges with fans on WhatsApp groups on December 20, 2024.
Verbal altercations with fans, which allegedly brought the club into disrepute and caused internal conflicts.
The club emphasized that these actions violate professional conduct standards and threaten the club’s reputation.
Terms of the Suspension
The suspension takes immediate effect and will last for 28 days as investigations into the allegations continue. During this period:
Mwebaze is barred from coaching or managing the team, including their remaining two fixtures against Maroons FC and NEC FC.
He will receive half pay for the duration of the suspension.
A detailed report of the investigations will be shared with him within the stipulated period.
Club’s Position
In the letter, Mbale Heroes FC Chairman Wambi Andrew stated that the suspension is in the best interest of both the club and the coach’s safety.
The chairman reaffirmed the club’s mission to become the most successful community football club in Africa, both on and off the field, and highlighted the importance of maintaining high ethical standards.
