The Phillip Wokorach Foundation remains focused on community impact through mentorship and sports following the fifth edition of the PW15 tournament played on Tuesday at Kyadondo rugby grounds.
Founder Phillip Wokorach, who currently plays in France, having featured for the national 7s and 15s sides, says the focus is on nurturing young talents.
This year’s edition featured over 20 U-10 and U-14 teams from various parts of the country. The utility back is confident the annual tournament is imparting key skills to young players.
“We give career guidance and counselling to the players. It’s at a young age where one should be equipped with the right mindset,” he said.
Themed “A chance to give back to my roots”, Kireka side Podoreso clinched both age category titles in the day that included several fun activities.
“I engage players with rugby to keep them away from criminal activities. I’m happy the kids enjoyed themselves thanks to the support of sponsors, teammates and friends who joined the cause,” he added.
Uganda Rugby Union Secretary General Peter Odong believes the tournament is key in talent identification.
The PW15 foundation aims to empower disadvantaged athletes through rugby as a tool for social transformation.
