JT Lady Jaguars Strengthen Title Hopes with Double Signing from UCU

After finishing third in the 2024 Women’s National Basketball League season, JT Lady Jaguars have made a bold statement of intent by acquiring two key players from last season’s runners-up, UCU Lady Canons.

Shakira Nanvubya and Aziidah Lubega join the Jaguars as the team seeks to dethrone reigning champions JKL Lady Dolphins and clinch their first league title.

Nanvubya, one of the league’s finest point guards, had a stellar campaign last season, finishing as the top free-throw shooter in the league.

Known for her aggressive playing style and dynamic drives to the basket, Nanvubya is expected to bring both scoring prowess and defensive tenacity to the Jaguars’ backcourt.

On the other hand, Aziidah, while flying under the radar last season, brings versatility and potential to the squad.

Her ability to play across multiple positions adds depth to the Jaguars’ lineup.

Though she wasn’t at her peak performance with UCU, Aziidah’s skillset and basketball IQ make her a valuable asset for the Jaguars as they refine their championship ambitions.

The new recruits will reunite with familiar faces at JT, including former UCU teammates Sarah Ageno, Rhoda Najitta, Maimuna Nabbossa, Brenda Kayaga, and Annet Among.

This reunion, along with the presence of coach Sudi Ulanga, himself a protege of UCU Lady Canons coach Nick Natuhereza, is expected to foster seamless integration and team chemistry.

Last season, the JT Lady Jaguars showcased remarkable achievements despite falling short of the championship.

They were recognised as the Fair Play Team of the Year and were the league’s best team when it came to defense.

Their star player Mercy Batamuliza claimed the Best Rebounder accolade and, alongside Sarah Ageno, was named among the Top 5 Players of the Season.

With their latest signings, the Jaguars now boast a roster filled with national team experience, leadership, and talent.

The reinforcements of Nanvubya and Aziidah underline their unwavering ambitions of dethroning the Dolphins and solidifying their place as title contenders.
