Record 17-time national rugby league champions Platinum Credit Heathens will look to continue their winning streak as the Nile Special national rugby championship league kicks off this weekend.
The Mohammad Athio-coached side won a treble last season and remain in inspired form to replicate the performance.
Platinum Credit Heathens forward Simon Olet is confident the Kyadondo side will be a force to reckon with this season having gone unbeaten to win last season’s title.
The experienced lock played a key role in guiding his side to the championship league, Uganda Cup and national sevens titles.
At a season launch cocktail hosted by sponsors Platinum Credit Uganda in Kampala last evening, Olet reflected on the season targets.
“We have been training hard as we aim to perform well for the coming season. The team is motivated and that helps us achieve success,” he said.
Club secretary Emmanuel Muhangi is upbeat ahead of the new campaign.
“Every team is here to compete but we are confident that we will still carry the treble and we will be unstoppable. We have new and young lads on the team and I think it’s good for our development and performance,” stated Muhangi.
Platinum Credit Uganda’s head of collections Greffens Kizito says they are in the partnership for the long haul.
“We are happy with the performance of the team and are committed to the club. The future is bright in regards to the partnership and ready to support the club to achieve more success,” Kizito stated.
Platinum Credit Heathens will face Warriors in their season opener on Saturday at 4pm at Kyadondo rugby grounds.
