Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has confirmed a series of international friendlies as part of the team’s preparations for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), following the cancellation of a planned match against CHAN holders Senegal.
Speaking about the setback, Coach Put expressed disappointment but assured fans that the team’s preparations would continue with alternate high-profile fixtures.
“The friendly against Senegal did not materialize as expected. We had contact with them but they went silent. We have quickly adjusted and lined up other opponents for our build-up,” Put explained.
The Uganda Cranes are set to face Niger in Rwanda on January 18, 2025, a crucial fixture aimed at strengthening the squad and testing their capabilities ahead of the continental competition.
In addition, a proposed friendly match against DR Congo is scheduled for January 24, 2025, in Dubai.
These matches provide Coach Put with opportunities to assess the Cranes’ readiness and fine-tune tactical strategies in preparation for the tournament, which kicks off on February 1, 2025, in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
As the host nation, Uganda will be aiming to make a strong impact at CHAN 2024, which will be jointly held across the three East African countries.
The Cranes are in full residential camp at the Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisasi as they prepare.
