Allan Okello is set to captain the Uganda Cranes at the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), which Uganda will co-host alongside Kenya and Tanzania from February 1 to 28, 2025.
Okello first wore the captain’s armband during the CHAN qualifiers, where he led Uganda to a 2-0 aggregate victory over Burundi.
His leadership and on-field performances have since positioned him as a key figure in the team as they prepare for the prestigious tournament.
The Uganda Premier League’s leading scorer, with 11 goals in 15 matches for Vipers SC, Okello also serves as the club’s vice-captain.
His consistency and experience make him a standout choice to guide the Cranes as they aim for a strong showing on home soil.
Okello’s recent form has been instrumental, including a standout campaign in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
The midfielder contributed three assists to help Uganda secure a return to the continental competition, further cementing his reputation as one of the team’s most influential players.
Having previously played for Algerian side Paradou AC, Okello brings valuable international and national team experience to the current CHAN squad. As one of the senior players, he is expected to inspire a blend of seasoned talent and young prospects during the tournament.
The Uganda Cranes continue their preparations with scheduled international friendlies, aiming to refine their strategies and build momentum ahead of CHAN 2024.
