The much-anticipated TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship 2024 Final Draw took place on Wednesday, January 15th, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya.
The ceremony was a vibrant celebration of African football, featuring performances by Kenyan musician Bien from Sauti Sol, Uganda’s energetic Ghetto Kids, and Kenya’s Red Fourth Choir.
Here’s a breakdown of the groups:
- Group A: Kenya (co-host), Morocco (Pot A), Angola (Pot B), DR Congo (Pot C), Zambia (Pot C)
- Group B: Tanzania (co-host), Madagascar (Pot A), Mauritania (Pot B), Burkina Faso (Pot C), Central African Republic (Pot C)
- Group C: Uganda (co-host), Niger (Pot A), Guinea (Pot B), Q2 (Qualifier 2), Q1 (Qualifier 1)
- Group D: Senegal (Defending Champions), Congo (Pot A), Sudan (Pot B), Nigeria (Pot C)
The co-hosts, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, were seeded into Groups A, B, and C, respectively. Defending champions Senegal will lead Group D.
The remaining teams were drawn from three pots based on their performances in the past three CHAN tournaments.
The tournament was originally scheduled for February this year but was postponed to August 2025 to ensure world-class facilities for the competition.
This year’s CHAN is unique as it’s the first edition to be co-hosted by three nations: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
CAF announced a significant increase in prize money. The champions will now receive $3.5 million, with a total prize pool of $10.4 million.
