Justin Kluivert scored a stunning hat-trick as Bournemouth emphatically ended Newcastle United’s six-match winning streak with a 4-1 victory at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
The Dutchman’s treble, including a spectacular late curler, proved decisive as Bournemouth climbed to sixth in the Premier League, leapfrogging Chelsea on goal difference. Newcastle, meanwhile, remain in fourth place.
The match erupted into life early on. Kluivert opened the scoring in the sixth minute, capitalizing on a swift Bournemouth counter-attack. Newcastle responded through Bruno Guimarães’s header from a Lewis Hall corner in the 25th minute, igniting the home crowd.
However, Kluivert restored Bournemouth’s lead before halftime, showcasing his clinical finishing once again. The visitors continued to press, and while Dango Outtara’s 61st-minute goal was ruled out for offside, they remained a threat.
Kluivert then sealed his hat-trick with a sublime strike in stoppage time, leaving the home fans stunned. Milos Kerkez added a fourth in the closing moments to complete a resounding victory for Andoni Iraola’s side.
“Our run is also beautiful,” Kluivert said after the match, “and that’s what we showed today, that we’re here to make an impression.” He added that the team harbors ambitions of qualifying for European competition.
The result leaves the Premier League table tightly contested, with just one point separating fourth-placed Newcastle from seventh-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.
