FUBA has announced a new Gazelles technical team as they gear up for the FIBA Africa Zone V Qualifiers.

The competition, set to take place in Cairo, Egypt, presents a critical opportunity for the Gazelles to secure a spot in the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket.

In a key development, Nicholas Natuhereza, who previously served as the team’s assistant coach, has been promoted to head coach.

Natuhereza takes over from Goran Lojo, who has opted to pursue another opportunity with Great Britain.

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) President, Nasser Sserunjogi, expressed confidence in Natuhereza’s ability to guide the Gazelles to success.

“Nick Natuhereza will be the head coach for the Gazelles at the upcoming FIBA Zone V Qualifiers in Cairo.”

“While Goran Lojo was initially set to lead the team, he opted for another opportunity, and we wish him all the best.”

“However, we trust Nick’s experience and knowledge will guide the team to success.”

Natuhereza’s new technical team includes Julius Lutwama as the assistant coach and Ugandan basketball legend Ben Komakech, who will serve as the team’s video analyst.

Speaking about his new role, Natuhereza expressed his enthusiasm.

“I accept the challenge. It’s always an honor to be in this position as the head coach. Hopefully, we can do some good things and qualify for the AfroBasket.”

The Gazelles are set to begin preparations on Tuesday, January 21, 2024, as they work towards their goal of qualifying for the continental championship.

FUBA remains optimistic about the team’s prospects under the leadership of Natuhereza and his experienced technical staff.

With a blend of determination and strategic planning, the Gazelles aim to make a mark at the FIBA Zone V Qualifiers and secure their place at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket.
