The second round of the National Volleyball League began with fireworks in Women’s Serie A category as VVC staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Nemo Ladies 3-2 at the Sport-S Volleyball Arena in Nsambya yesterday afternoon.
The win is VVC’s fifth of the season after 10 games and further dents Nemo Ladies’ campaign, which has seen them record just one win so far.
Nemo Ladies started the game strongly, capturing the first two sets in closely contested battles.
They edged VVC 27-25 in the opener before clinching the second set 30-28, putting them on the brink of their second win of the season.
However, VVC demonstrated remarkable resilience, refusing to go down without a fight.
Their improved net defense and attacking efficiency saw them rally to win the third set 25-21 and dominate the fourth 25-15, forcing a decisive fifth set.
With momentum firmly in their favour, VVC sealed the victory with a commanding 15-8 performance in the tiebreaker, earning two crucial points.
Despite the loss, Nemo Ladies secured a losing bonus point as consolation.
Meanwhile, Nemo’s men’s team delivered a commanding performance, defeating Police 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-23) to claim maximum points.
This victory, their eighth of the season, moves them to within three points of league leaders Sport-S, who are scheduled to play this evening at the same venue.
In the men’s other match, KCCA outclassed Prisons 3-1 (27-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18). The win solidifies KCCA’s third-place position with 21 points, keeping them in contention.
For Prisons, the loss continues a dismal campaign, leaving them at the bottom of the table with only three losing bonus points after ten games.
