The construction of the 60,000-seater Talanta Sports City Stadium in Nairobi is progressing well, with completion expected by December 2025, according to Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya.
During his visit to the facility on Thursday, Mvurya expressed satisfaction with the work of the Chinese-based contractor, China Road and Bridge Corporation, noting that the stadium is currently on its third tier, with terraces being installed.
“From the briefing and from what I have seen, the stadium will be ready in December. I am happy with the progress and also with other stadiums (Nyayo and Kasarani). There is a lot of work going on in all departments like the terraces and the VIP stand, so it’s progressing well and will be ready in time,” Mvurya stated.
The Talanta Sports City Stadium, situated on a 45.64-hectare site along Nairobi’s Ngong Road, will feature an outdoor training field, a standard athletic field, and a rugby training ground.
This development aligns with Kenya’s preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Tanzania and Uganda.
In a parallel effort, Uganda is making significant strides with the construction of the Hoima City Stadium, set to be the country’s second-largest stadium upon completion.
The project, managed by Turkish construction firm Summa, is currently at 22% completion, with expectations to finish by December 2025.
Hoima City Mayor Brian Kaboyo expressed satisfaction with the progress, stating, “We are impressed by the progress of the construction.”
Both nations are demonstrating commitment to meeting the December 2025 deadline for stadium readiness, ensuring the necessary infrastructure is in place for a successful AFCON 2027 tournament.
