Tottenham Hotspur are facing a potential injury crisis ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against Leicester City on Sunday. Manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed that three key players are battling fitness issues.
Right-back Djed Spence, who missed the midweek Europa League match against Hoffenheim, remains a doubt after picking up a knock in the recent defeat to Everton.
Midfielder Pape Sarr is also a concern after sustaining an injury at Goodison Park, while Yves Bissouma is dealing with a minor muscle strain.
“Djed’s still sore from the weekend, he got a knock so he’s a doubt. Pape’s still a doubt,” Postecoglou told reporters. “We’ll see how we go [with Bissouma]. He’s definitely a doubt for Sunday but we’re hoping by Elfsborg [this Thursday] he could be right.”
There was some positive news on the injury front, however, with the return of center-back Cristian Romero to training this week.
While Romero won’t be available for the Leicester match, his presence will provide a significant boost to the squad’s morale.
Despite Leicester City’s recent struggles, including a seven-game losing streak, Postecoglou emphasized that his team cannot afford to underestimate their opponents.
“It’ll be a tough game,” he said. “They’re in a fight to stay in the Premier League and they’ll come and try and make it difficult for us.”
Tottenham have struggled against teams in the lower half of the table this season, and Postecoglou acknowledged the importance of a strong home performance against Leicester.
“Being at home will help us,” he added. “With the crowd they can definitely give some energy to the players and hopefully with a really good atmosphere we can overcome the challenge.”
