The She Cranes, Uganda’s national netball team, are ready to represent the nation on the international stage as they gear up for the Vitality Cup in the United Kingdom.
Head coach Rashid Mubiru unveiled the final 13-member squad on Saturday, which will compete in the prestigious four-nation tournament scheduled from February 1 to 9, 2025.
The squad features a mix of seasoned players and fresh talent, with debutants Amiya Penelope and Joan Ryekoboth earning their spots alongside experienced names like Racheal Nanyonga, Sandra Nambirige, and captain Irene Eyaru.
Mubiru highlighted the rigorous selection process, stating, “It was about combining skills, discipline, and overall readiness.”
The She Cranes will face tough competition from host nation England, South Africa, and Malawi. Their first match is set against South Africa on February 1 in Nottingham.
The team will depart for the UK on Wednesday, January 29, following a brief training break tomorrow to fine-tune their preparations.
Mubiru expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to perform on the world stage, adding, “We are prepared to give our best and make Uganda proud.”
The final squad announcement also meant heartbreak for six players who missed the cut: Filedaus Namulema, Sylvia Nanyonga, Lilian Achola, Betty Namukaaya, Akello Malisera, and Deborah Nakijoba.
