The stage is set for the Uganda Cranes as they prepare to learn their group stage opponents in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.
The final draw will take place on Monday, January 27, at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat, Morocco, starting at 9:00 PM East African Time (EAT).
The Cranes, placed in Pot 3 based on the latest FIFA World Rankings, are guaranteed to face a challenging mix of opponents from Pots 1, 2, and 4.
Pot 1 includes some of Africa’s most formidable teams, such as host nation Morocco, defending champions Côte d’Ivoire, and continental giants Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.
The draw will follow a structured sequence, with Morocco automatically occupying the A1 spot in Group A.
Teams from Pot 4 will be drawn first, followed by Pots 3, 2, and the remaining Pot 1 teams to complete the six groups.
For the Cranes, this draw is a pivotal moment as they aim to make an impact in their eighth AFCON appearance.
Having been runners-up in 1978, Uganda will be looking to go further in this 35th edition of the tournament.
Coach Paul Put and FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim are among the Ugandan delegation attending the draw in Rabat.
The tournament, scheduled to kick off in Morocco later this year, will feature 24 teams divided into six groups of four.
The top two teams in each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the knockout stages.
