The Kampala Hockey Swans will represent Uganda at the prestigious Africa Cup for Club Champions (ACCC) in Egypt.
The team, comprising 18 players, including three veterans returns to the competition after a decade.
The team was flagged off by Sarah Chelangat, the acting Assistant General Secretary of the National Council of Sports.
The Swans are set to compete against ten top-tier clubs from across the continent, including formidable opponents from Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria.
The tournament, scheduled to run from January 30th to February 7th in Ismailia, Egypt, presents a challenging yet exciting opportunity for the Ugandan side to showcase their skills and elevate Uganda’s standing in African hockey.
Leading the charge is striker Sandra Namusoke, who brings invaluable experience from her participation in the 2014 edition of the ACCC hosted in Uganda.
Joining Namusoke are Bridget Baine and Desire Mukisa, seasoned veterans who will bolster the team’s experience and provide crucial guidance to the younger players.
Captain Vanessa Abeja expressed confidence in the team’s balanced composition, highlighting the potent blend of youth and experience.
“I’m excited about the team we’ve put together,” Abeja stated. “We have a great blend of youth and experience, and I believe we can make a strong impact at the competition.”
The flag-off ceremony at the Copper Chimney, Lugogo, saw Sarah Chelangat extend her unwavering support to the team.
“We are proud of our team and wish them all the best to go represent Uganda in the last competitions in Malawi you won Bronze so please this time win for us gold,” Chelangat emphasized.
Team manager Jordan Mpiima will lead the Swans into battle, aiming to bring home glory and further solidify Uganda’s position on the African hockey map.
