NBS Sport, Uganda’s leading sports channel, is set to broadcast the highly anticipated 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw live tonight at 9 PM EAT.
The draw will take place at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat, Morocco, and will determine the groupings of the 24 teams set to compete in the tournament from 21 December 2025 to 13 January 2026.
The channel has planned an extensive buildup to the live draw, starting at 5 PM EAT, featuring expert analysis from renowned football journalists like Stuart Kimera, David Didi Tumusiime, Andrew Kabuura, Brian Tuka, and Ian Mutenda.
Jovita Musimenta, the Programs Manager of NBS Sport, emphasized the importance of the event, stating that this marks the beginning of yet another thrilling chapter for the channel, which recently broadcast the CHAN 2024 draw in Nairobi and other high-profile tournaments, including EURO 2024 and the Rugby Africa Cup.
“We’re bringing the excitement of the AFCON draw live to your screens. The journey to African football glory begins here—don’t miss a moment of the action!” Musimenta noted.
In tonight’s draw, host nation Morocco will automatically take position A1 as one of the six teams in Pot 1, which also includes defending champions Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Nigeria.
The other teams have been allocated to Pots 2, 3, and 4 based on the FIFA World Rankings from December 2024.
Teams will be placed sequentially from Pot 4 to Pot 1 to form six groups of four.
Uganda, placed in Pot 3, is making its eighth AFCON appearance and its first since 2019.
The Cranes secured their spot after finishing second in their qualification group behind South Africa, defeating Congo and South Sudan along the way.
This year’s tournament carries added significance as Uganda looks to build momentum ahead of co-hosting the 2027 AFCON with Kenya and Tanzania.
The draw will feature African football icons Mustapha Hadji, Serge Aurier, Aliou Cisse, and Joseph Yobo as assistants.
In addition to pulling teams from the pots, these legends will provide insights into the groupings for the tournament, which promises to showcase the best of African football on the global stage.
