National Volleyball League (NVL) defending champions Sport-S delivered yet another emphatic performance, sweeping KAVC-A 3-0 on Sunday to tighten their grip at the top of the Serie A Men’s standings.
The straight-set victory (25-20, 25-22, 25-20) marked their 11th consecutive win this season, cementing their position as the team to beat in the ongoing campaign.
Sport-S’s dominant run has seen them win 10 of their 11 matches in straight sets, with their only five-set game coming in a nail-biting 3-2 victory over arch-rivals Nemostars in October.
This near-flawless record reflects their sheer dominance, with an impressive 33 sets won and just two lost all season.
The Nsambya-based side now prepares for a high-stakes showdown against Nemostars on February 9, a match that promises thrilling action given the historical rivalry between the two teams.
Speaking of Nemostars, the six-time NVL champions suffered a significant setback in their title chase on Saturday, losing 3-2 to KCCA in a gripping five-set battle (25-17, 27-25, 23-25, 16-25, 8-15).
Despite taking an early 2-0 lead, Nemostars faltered in the final three sets, allowing KCCA to mount a remarkable comeback.
The loss, Nemostars’ third of the season, dents their hopes of challenging Sport-S for the title.
On the other hand, KCCA’s victory boosts their impressive campaign, as they now sit with nine wins and only two losses.
The weekend also saw Elyon overcome Police 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 13-25, 23-25) on Saturday, while UCU secured a 3-1 win against Ndejje (25-23, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19) on Sunday.
