Heathens Rugby Club and Stanbic Black Pirates continued their unbeaten runs in the 2025 Uganda Rugby Premiership, asserting their dominance with convincing victories on Saturday.
At Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, defending champions Heathens delivered a commanding 83-06 win over Elgon Wolves to secure their third consecutive victory.
The match, broadcast live on NBS Sport, saw Michael Wokoroch star with four tries, including a second-half hat-trick, while Malcolm Okello and Allan Ofoyrwoth contributed two tries each.
Emmanuel Byamugisha, Joseph Oyet, Akera Komakech, and Denis Etwau also crossed the whitewash, with Okello excelling in conversions to round off a stunning performance.
The Wolves managed only two penalties through Hamisi Katumba in a one-sided affair. This third consecutive loss leaves the newly promoted side rooted at the bottom of the table.
For Heathens, this victory follows earlier wins against Walukuba (41-23) and Warriors (45-12), further solidifying their bid for an 18th league title.
The reigning champions, who edged Black Pirates in last season’s playoff final, are proving why they remain favorites to lift the trophy again.
Speaking of Black Pirates, the Bweyogerere-based side also maintained their perfect record with a hard-fought 28-13 victory over Victoria University Sharks at Kings Park Arena.
Despite a strong start from the Sharks, who took an early lead through an Isreal Makokha penalty, Pirates rallied through Eliphaz Emong’s try and William Nkore’s accurate kicking to control the game.
The Sharks showed flashes of brilliance, with Saul Kivumbi scoring a second-half try, but defensive errors and missed opportunities proved costly.
Pirates sealed the win with late tries from Allan Karuhanga and Roy Kizito, showcasing their attacking flair and resilience.
Elsewhere, Toyota Buffaloes and Walukuba Barbarians battled to a 12-12 stalemate at Kyadondo in the season’s first draw that was broadcast live on NBS Live on AfroMobile, while Rhinos edged Mongers 40-32 in a thrilling encounter.
Jinja Hippos cruised past Warriors 41-15, and KOBs thrashed Eagles 71-23 to maintain their own strong start.
