The Silverbacks Lacrosse Club, hailing from Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in Uganda, emerged as the overall winners in the men’s category of the Musingu Open Championship held in Kakamega County, Kenya.
The team also finished as runners-up in the women’s category, marking a strong showing in the inaugural tournament.
The two-day event that happened from January 25 to 26 attracted 10 teams, with four competing in the junior boys’ category and three each in the men’s and women’s categories.
The Silverbacks faced stiff competition from Kenya’s top clubs, including Amazon and Apex in the men’s category, and Dreamers (Mumias) and Rockstars (Nairobi) in the women’s competition.
Doreen Indasi, a member of the Kenya Lacrosse organizing committee, praised the tournament as a vital platform for exposure and development for players.
Twesiime Liberty, President of the Uganda Lacrosse Association, commended the efforts of all participating teams and emphasized the importance of such international tournaments.
“I encourage more clubs, academies, and schools to sign up for these events. They open doors for players at all levels and age grades to gain international exposure,” he stated.
The Musingu Open Championship marks a growing collaboration among African lacrosse nations.
