Uganda Cranes striker Denis Omedi has shared his thoughts on the team’s Group C opponents at the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, labeling the group as “not very bad” but emphasizing the need for focus and determination.
Speaking after the draw for Uganda’s eighth appearance at the continental showpiece, Omedi acknowledged the quality of their group opponents—Nigeria, Tunisia, and Tanzania—but remained optimistic about the Cranes’ chances.
“It is not a very bad group. Each and every single game won’t be easy. Each team that has made it to this stage deserves it,” Omedi said.
The forward, who scored two crucial goals during the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, highlighted the importance of starting strong.
Uganda’s campaign kicks off against Tunisia on December 23 in Rabat, a game Omedi believes could set the tone for the tournament.
“The first game of the competition is important, and we need to be focused,” he emphasized.
Omedi, one of Uganda’s standout performers in the qualifiers, was instrumental in helping the Cranes secure their spot in Morocco.
His clinical finishing and ability to perform under pressure make him a key asset as Uganda seeks to advance beyond the group stages.
“We shall be in Morocco to defend our Nation. It’s a group that any team has a chance to get out to the next round,” he added.
Omedi will potentially lead the Cranes’ attack against a tough field, starting with Tunisia, the 2004 AFCON champions.
The East African derby against Tanzania on December 27 will be another high-stakes encounter, while Nigeria, three-time AFCON winners, loom as a formidable challenge in the group finale on December 30.
