AFCON 2025: Host Cities and Venues for Tournament Revealed

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation Local Organising Committee have unveiled the host cities and stadiums for the highly anticipated 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Scheduled to take place from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, Africa’s premier football tournament will showcase matches in six Moroccan cities and nine world-class stadiums.

The host cities include Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir, Marrakech, Fes, and Tangier, with the Moroccan capital, Rabat, boasting the most venues (four).

These include the iconic 69,500-capacity Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah, which will host the tournament’s opening and final matches.

Other venues in the capital are the Stade Olympique Annexe Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah (21,000), Stade Al Barid (18,000), and Complexe Sportif Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan (22,000).

Casablanca, the nation’s largest city, will host matches at the 45,000-seater Complexe Sportif Mohammed V, which will also stage the third-place playoff.

Agadir will feature the Grand Stade d’Agadir, a 41,144-capacity venue, while Marrakech will host games at the 41,245-seat Grand Stade de Marrakech.

Fes has been allocated the Complexe Sportif de Fès, which accommodates 35,468 spectators, while Tangier, known for its vibrant football culture, boasts the largest venue of the tournament, the Grand Stade de Tanger, with a seating capacity of 75,600.

With nine modern stadiums spread across the six cities, no venue will host more than one match per day throughout the tournament.

Morocco last hosted the tournament in 1988, where eight teams participated, and Cameroon edged Nigeria in the finals to win the coveted trophy.

The country’s hosting of the tournament this time round will be special, as for the first time in AFCON history, CAF has introduced Team Base Camps.

Each participating team will be housed in a 5-star or higher hotel and provided with a dedicated training ground.

The Uganda Cranes, for instance, will reside at the luxurious Ritz Carlton Hotel.

The draw for the groups of the competition was conducted yesterday at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat, and notably, Uganda was pitted in group C alongside powerhouses Nigeria and Tunisia, as well as regional rivals Tanzania.
