The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the postponed 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) will now take place from 2 August to 30 August 2025.
The tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, was initially scheduled for February 2025 but had been delayed due to logistical challenges.
The confirmation came during the CAF Executive Committee meeting held on 27 January 2025 in Rabat, Morocco, under the chairmanship of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
The CHAN tournament is exclusively for players competing in their home countries’ domestic leagues and is regarded as a crucial platform for showcasing local talent.
In addition to approving the new CHAN schedule, the committee finalized key dates for other upcoming competitions.
These include the Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, set for 22–30 April 2025 in Morocco, and the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 in six Moroccan cities—Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir, Marrakech, Fes, and Tangier.
CAF also announced an expanded format for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), increasing the number of participating teams from 12 to 16.
Additionally, the bidding process for hosting several future competitions, including the Women’s Champions League and U-17 and U-20 AFCON tournaments, has been opened.
