The highly anticipated FUBA U15 Basketball Tournament, initially scheduled for January 31 to February 1 at Mengo Secondary School, has been canceled due to low academy turnout.

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) announced the decision, expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to participating teams and basketball fans.

The tournament was expected to feature boys’ and girls’ teams from various affiliated academies, providing young athletes with a competitive platform to showcase their talent and gain valuable experience.

However, the limited number of registered teams forced organizers to put the event on hold. In a statement, FUBA reassured stakeholders that new dates would be communicated soon.

“This tournament was designed to promote youth basketball development in Uganda, and while the response was lower than expected, we remain committed to providing such opportunities for young players,” the federation stated.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the continued support from academies, players, and basketball fans.”

The tournament, which aimed to identify and nurture future basketball stars, had already begun the registration process, with academies required to pay a participation fee.

FUBA has yet to announce how it will handle refunds or whether registered teams will be carried forward to the rescheduled event.

Despite the setback, FUBA remains optimistic about rescheduling the tournament, emphasizing its importance in youth basketball development.
