Namuwongo Blazers Unveil Four Signings, Including Ex-City Oilers Duo

Namuwongo Blazers, also known as Namblazers, have bolstered their squad with four new signings, including former City Oilers stars James Okello and Tonny Drilleba.

The duo, who previously played a key role in City Oilers’ dominance, were unveiled alongside Henry Ssebagala and Moses Mugisha in a ceremony held at ABJA Park on Wednesday, January 29. The event was broadcast live on NBS Sport.

The Namblazers, who reached the semifinals last season, have reinforced their roster in a bid to dethrone City Oilers, the record champions of the National Basketball League.

Drilleba, a seasoned player with seven championship titles to his name, was part of the veteran exodus from City Oilers last season after nearly a decade with the team.

He later had a brief stint at Bukavu before an injury sidelined him for an extended period.

Okello also departed around the same time, and their reunion at Namblazers signals the team’s intent to challenge for top honors.

Speaking on his decision to join the Namuwongo side, Drilleba highlighted the club’s structure and vision.

“I wanted to be a part of something that is structured. When coach Esco approached me, I felt like it was a good organization to be a part of,” he said.

Ssebagala and Mugisha, both arriving from Our Saviour, add further depth to the squad as the Namblazers prepare for the new campaign.

The team will return to action in March when the National Basketball League 2025 season starts.
