He follows the signings of Hussein Ssenoga, Lumumba Norman Eluzai, and Shafiq Avemah.

“I was born and grew up in Lugazi,” Othieno stated. “I think it is the right time to come back home and pick up myself. I believe if one works hard, he achieves and I am here to exactly do that.”

Othieno’s football journey began at Lugazi Young Academy before a stint with Villa Jogo Young.

He achieved significant success early in his career, winning the Copa Coca Cola football championship with Buddo Secondary School in 2009.

In 2012, he captained Buwekula to the final of the prestigious Buganda Masaza Cup.

His professional career has taken him across Uganda and beyond.

Othieno’s experience includes playing for Kira Young (2013), SC Victoria University (2014/15), UPDF FC (2015-2018), and Ndejje University (2021).

He also ventured abroad, playing for Musongati FC of Burundi and later for Buja City between 2022 and 2023.

Prior to his move to Lugazi, he played for Moso Sugar in the Burundi Primus League throughout 2024.

The club expressed their delight in welcoming Othieno, emphasizing the significance of bringing a local talent back to Lugazi.

Lugazi are currently 12th in the Uganda Premier League standings with 14 points having won twice, drawn eight times and lost 5 games.

They will kick off their second round of the 2024/25 season when they host 10th place Police on Wednesday 12th February.
