FUFA Juniors League Returns: New Format, Key Dates, and Player Eligibility Unveiled

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed that the seventh edition of the FUFA Juniors League will commence on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

The competition, which serves as a platform for nurturing young talent, will feature teams from all StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) clubs, each required to field a junior team.

According to FUFA, the 2025 edition will follow a round-based format with three rounds of play.

Sixteen teams have been divided into two groups—Treble and Hat-trick.

The Treble Group includes KCCA FC JT, Soana Bright Stars FC JT, URA FC JT, Vipers SC JT, Wakiso Giants FC JT, UPDF FC JT, Kitara FC JT, and Mbarara City FC JT.

Meanwhile, the Hat-trick Group consists of KCCA FC SA, NEC FC JT, Maroons FC JT, Police FC JT, SC Villa JT, Lugazi FC JT, BUL FC JT, and Mbale Heroes FC JT.

Player eligibility has been set with a clear age structure: clubs must register a maximum of 25 players, including five born in 2007, fifteen born between 2008 and 2009, and five born in 2010.

Each squad must have at least one goalkeeper in each of these age categories.

FUFA has outlined strict licensing requirements, including the submission of a signed minor consent form, official identification documents, and completed player registration forms.

Bashir Mutyaba, FUFA’s Youth Football Development Manager, emphasized the league’s importance in preparing Uganda’s U17 national team for the upcoming Total Energies AFCON U17 tournament.

“The timing of the FUFA Juniors League is strategic, aligning perfectly with preparations for the upcoming AFCON U17 tournament. This competition serves as a valuable platform to identify potential prospects for the Cubs while providing players with much-needed competitive experience ahead of the continental championship,” Mutyaba stated.

With the league set to kick off in just over a week, the FUFA Juniors League 2025 promises to be a crucial avenue for developing young Ugandan football talent while contributing to the national team’s future success.
