Bayern Munich narrowly escaped a late-game collapse against Holstein Kiel, ultimately securing a 4-3 victory at the Allianz Arena.
While the final scoreline suggests a close contest, Bayern largely dominated the match, showcasing their offensive prowess for much of the game.
However, two late goals from Kiel almost erased Bayern’s comfortable lead, leaving manager Vincent Kompany with concerns despite the win.
Harry Kane continued his impressive form for Bayern, netting a brace on his 50th Bundesliga appearance.
Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry also contributed goals, seemingly putting Bayern in control. However, Kiel’s resilience shone through in the second half.
Finn Porath pulled one back, and then Steven Skrzybski scored twice in quick succession in stoppage time, sending shivers down the spines of Bayern fans.
Had Kiel managed to find an equalizer, it would have been a catastrophic result for the Bavarian giants.
Despite the late drama, Bayern’s performance for a large portion of the game was dominant. They created numerous chances in the first half and could have easily gone into halftime with a larger lead than 2-0, were it not for some key saves from Kiel goalkeeper Tim Weiner.
Kompany acknowledged his team’s late-game struggles. “It was a pretty complete game until the 80th minute,” he admitted. “But we also played against a team that was fighting for every moment. I thought we started the second half really well, but in terms of how we finished the game, that’s something we’ll have to review with the players.”
The manager’s decision to make several substitutions in the second half may have contributed to the team losing focus, although he also credited Kiel’s fighting spirit.
The victory maintains Bayern’s perfect Bundesliga record in 2025, but the match also highlighted some defensive vulnerabilities.
Bayern have now conceded five goals in their last three league matches, and eight in their last four across all competitions, including a 3-0 Champions League defeat to Feyenoord.
