FTWSL: Kampala Queens Extend Lead as Kawempe Muslim Drop Points

Kampala Queens tightened their grip on the Finance Trust Bank Women’s Super League title race with a crucial 1-0 victory over Uganda Martyrs on Sunday at St. Gerald Stadium in Lubaga.

Peace Muduwa’s first-half strike in the 39th minute proved decisive, as the league leaders capitalised on a mistake by Uganda Martyrs goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu, who rushed off her line but failed to stop the forward.

Despite their dominance, Kampala Queens squandered several chances to extend the lead, with Sumaya Komuntale’s free kick hitting the crossbar and substitute Kamiyat rattling the post.

Catherine Nagadya also missed a clear-cut opportunity after being set up by Zainah Nandede.

Uganda Martyrs struggled to mount a serious attacking threat in the second half, with captain Latifa Nakasi unable to inspire a breakthrough.

Kaidu, at fault for the goal, was later substituted for Joan Namusisi, who almost gifted Kampala Queens another goal.

Uganda Martyrs introduced new signings, including Namusisi, Moreen Afoyo, and Phiona Nabuddu, but their efforts were not enough to salvage a point.

With this victory, Kampala Queens now lead the table with 28 points, extending their advantage to three points ahead of second-placed Kawempe Muslim, who were held to a goalless draw by Makerere University.

Kawempe controlled possession but struggled to break down a well-organised Makerere defense, dropping crucial points in the title race.

The slip-up by Kawempe also allowed Amus College to close in, as their 1-0 win over Wakiso Hill moved them to 24 points, just one behind the second-placed side.

In other fixtures, She Corporate secured a 1-0 victory over Lady Doves in Jinja, courtesy of a goal from Jesca Namanda, while She Maroons and Olila High School settled for a goalless draw, and Tooro Queens edged Rines SS 2-1.
