Liverpool fans have received a major boost after learning that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury sustained during their 2-0 victory over Bournemouth is not as serious as initially feared.
The right-back, who is reportedly a key transfer target for Real Madrid, limped off the pitch with 20 minutes remaining in the match, sparking concerns of a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Alexander-Arnold immediately signaled to the bench for a substitution, raising worries among the Anfield faithful.
The club promptly sent the 26-year-old for scans to determine the extent of the injury.
The results, as reported by The Athletic, have brought welcome relief to Liverpool. Scans revealed no significant damage, with the injury expected to keep Alexander-Arnold out for “days rather than weeks.”
Despite the positive news, Alexander-Arnold will miss Thursday’s crucial Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool trail 1-0 from the first leg and will be without both Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez for the must-win game.
Youngster Conor Bradley is likely to step in and fill the void at right-back.
Alexander-Arnold is also expected to be rested for Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round away trip to Plymouth Argyle.
However, there is optimism that he could return to action as early as February 12 for the rescheduled Merseyside derby against Everton. The match was originally postponed in December due to Storm Darragh.
