Uganda Gears Up for CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027: Business Leaders Urge Locals to Seize Opportunities

As Uganda prepares to host the prestigious CHAN (African Nations Championship) in August 2024 and AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations) in 2027, business-oriented members of the community are calling on Ugandans to take full advantage of the opportunities these international tournaments present.

The call came during the inaugural OP Motors Sports Gala, held at the Kyadondo Rugby Club, where business leaders discussed the potential benefits these events could bring to the local economy.

The gala saw NEC Corporates emerge as the champions, defeating OP Motors Team 2-1 in an exciting final match, adding a competitive flair to the event.

Paul Okoboi’s Call

One of the most notable voices at the event was Paul Okoboi, a businessman who runs a car bond in Kampala.

Okoboi shared his excitement about the expected business boom during the CHAN tournament and beyond.

He highlighted that Uganda, alongside Kenya and Tanzania, will be hosting the CHAN 2024 tournament, with the AFCON 2027 tournament also set to take place in the region.

“Businesses are going to boom during this time,” said Okoboi.

“We are already preparing to offer transport services to the expected influx of guests and fans from across the continent.”

“It’s important that Ugandans are ready to seize these opportunities before outsiders swoop in.”

Okoboi’s message was clear: now is the time for local businesses to prepare and capitalize on the potential growth.

From hospitality and transport to retail and event management, the benefits of hosting such massive events are endless, and Ugandans must not let the chance slip by.

A Growing Economy, A Growing Opportunity

The combined impact of CHAN and AFCON is expected to bring thousands of visitors to Uganda, with millions of dollars in potential revenue for local businesses.

With the country becoming a major hub for African football, Ugandans are being urged to invest in their communities, improve infrastructure, and provide services that will attract and accommodate the increasing number of visitors.

At the OP Motors Sports Gala, which served as a platform for networking among business leaders, seven teams participated in the tournament, including X40 Corporates, E-club, ACE FC, Massape, and Afaaya Daako.

The event was not only a showcase of sportsmanship but also a demonstration of how businesses can come together to promote the upcoming tournaments.

The Road Ahead

As the months draw closer to CHAN 2024 and the long-awaited AFCON 2027, the excitement continues to build.

Local businesses have a unique opportunity to make their mark in the regional and global spotlight, and the time to act is now.

Ugandans are encouraged to prepare, innovate, and seize these opportunities to ensure the success of these major football events, which are poised to change the country’s sports tourism landscape.
