Kawempe Muslim Ladies Football Club have appointed Agnes Nabukenya as their new captain following the departure of Phiona Nabulime to Egyptian side FC Masar.
The 16-year old forward, who was the standout performer in last season’s FUFA Women’s Super League, claimed both the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Top Scorer accolades, helping her club secure their fifth league title.
This season, Nabukenya has so far scored six goals, which places her second on the top scorers log behind Lady Doves’ Resty Kobusobozi (9 goals).
Nabukenya’s influence extends beyond club football, as she also captains the Uganda Teen Crested Cranes.
She recently demonstrated her attacking prowess by scoring six goals in Uganda’s dominant 10-0 victory over Namibia in the first leg of the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Her appointment marks a seamless transition in leadership at Kawempe Muslim, which has long been a breeding ground for top Ugandan talent.
She takes over from Phiona Nabulime, who, like her predecessor Aisha Nantongo, has secured an opportunity abroad.
Nantongo, the club’s former captain, left Kawempe in August last year before Nabulime assumed the armband.
Nabukenya will be expected to captain the side for the first time this weekend as Kawempe host Makerere University in the Kawempe derby at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Her leadership will be crucial as the club, who are currently three points behind leaders Kampala Queens, looks to close the gap and defend their title.
