The Uganda rugby fraternity is in mourning following the passing of Kayondo Ronnie, a player for Kampani Eagles RFC, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a Nile Special Rugby Premiership match.
Ronnie suffered an injury on February 8, 2025, during a fixture between Buffaloes Rugby Club and Kampani Eagles RFC at Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala.
He was receiving medical treatment at Kampala Hospital but sadly passed away on February 9, 2025.
In a joint statement, Kampani Eagles RFC and the Uganda Rugby Union expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of the young player.
“The Uganda Rugby Union, Kampani Eagles RFC, and the wider rugby community mourn the loss of this promising young player, who had so much more to offer. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ronnie’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read.
The rugby community has been shaken by the tragedy, with tributes pouring in from teammates, coaches, and fans who remember Ronnie for his dedication and passion for the game.
