Gaming: PSN Servers Restored After 24-Hour Outage, Sony to Compensate PS Plus Users

Sony has announced that PlayStation Network (PSN) is now fully operational following a widespread server outage that disrupted online services for nearly 24 hours.

The issue left PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 users unable to access online play, download games, or use PlayStation Plus features.

The outage started at 3 am EAT on Saturday, February 8, and Sony officially acknowledged the problem nearly two hours later.

Gamers worldwide expressed frustration as they were unable to connect to PlayStation’s online services throughout the day.

It wasn’t until 11 pm EAT on February 8 that Sony began restoring functionality, with the online status indicators on its official website finally turning green today morning at 2:40 am EAT.

To make up for the disruption, Sony has announced that all PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an additional five days of free service.

However, non-subscribers affected by the downtime will not receive any form of compensation.

While Sony has apologised for the inconvenience, the company has not yet provided an official explanation for the cause of the outage.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PlayStation’s support account described the issue as “an operational problem” and thanked the gaming community for their patience.

Despite the compensation, some players have expressed disappointment, with some suggesting that Sony should have offered a free game or financial reimbursement instead.

However, with services now fully restored, PlayStation users can once again enjoy their favorite online features without interruptions.
