She Maroons stunned Kawempe Muslim with a spirited second-half comeback to claim a 2-1 victory on Sunday at the Kawempe Muslim SS Grounds, dealing a blow to the hosts’ title aspirations in the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League.

A thunderous 67th-minute strike from Immaculate Kizza sealed the win for She Maroons, completing their fightback after Mercy Nabwire had earlier canceled out Shadia Nabirye’s first-half opener.

The defeat extends Kawempe Muslim’s shaky start in the second round, leaving them third on the table with 25 points, trailing leaders Kampala Queens by six.

She Maroons, meanwhile, climbed to fifth with 18 points from 13 matches.

The defending champions had started strongly, taking the lead in the 8th minute through Nabirye, who capitalised on a rebound after Samalie Nakacwa’s cross was initially saved by She Maroons’ goalkeeper Esther Akujo.

Despite their early dominance, they squandered opportunities to extend their lead, with Nabirye and Agnes Nabukenya failing to convert clear chances.

Akujo stood firm, pulling off a crucial one-on-one save before halftime to keep She Maroons in the contest.

The visitors returned from the break with renewed determination and were rewarded six minutes after the restart when Nabwire unleashed a stunning shot past goalkeeper Josephine Nambuya to level the score.

Kizza then produced the moment of brilliance in the 67th minute, launching a powerful long-range effort that found the back of the net, leaving the home crowd stunned.

Kawempe Muslim introduced star player Shakira Nyinagahirwa, returning from a long-term knee injury, in a bid to salvage the game, but She Maroons held firm to secure their first-ever away victory over the five-time league champions.

Kawempe Muslim drop to third place, level on 25 points with Amus College, who drew 2-2 against Rines SS but have scored more goals (20).

League leaders Kampala Queens extended their lead to 31 points with a 2-0 win over Makerere University on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Lady Doves edged Wakiso Hill 1-0 courtesy of league top scorer Resty Kobusobozi, who now has 10 goals; four more than Nabukenya in second place.

In Bukedea, Amus College and Rines SS played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.

The league now takes a break for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers, where Kawempe Muslim’s Ashley Nakabugo, Jolly Kobusingye, and Agnes Nabukenya are part of the Uganda squad.

Action resumes on March 1, with Kawempe hosting winless Wakiso Hill and She Maroons traveling to face Uganda Martyrs.
