Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) FC are set to appoint experienced coach Johnnie Ongodia as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season as the club intensifies its pursuit of promotion.
The Buganda Regional League side has spent several seasons attempting to secure a place higher up the Ugandan football ladder but has repeatedly fallen short of its target. Club officials believe Ongodia’s experience and leadership qualities can provide the spark needed to turn the team into genuine promotion contenders.
Ongodia arrives with his stock on the rise after serving as assistant coach at Black Power FC under Hussein Lukyamuzi. He was part of the technical team that guided the club back to the Uganda Premier League at the first attempt, a campaign that further strengthened his reputation within Ugandan football.
The incoming coach is expected to replace Andy Mugaga, who departs after leading the club through recent seasons. His appointment represents a significant statement of intent from UWA FC as they seek fresh direction ahead of the new campaign.
Ongodia brings extensive experience from both Uganda and the wider East African region. During his coaching career, he has managed Onduparaka FC and Arua City FC and has also worked with Calvary FC, Pallisa United, Karamoja Province and Rwanda’s Sunrise FC.
Widely recognised for his focus on player development and tactical organisation, Ongodia will now be tasked with building a squad capable of challenging for promotion. With preparations for the 2026/27 season already underway, expectations will be high that the new coach can finally help UWA FC achieve the breakthrough they have been chasing for years.
His arrival marks the beginning of a new chapter for the club, which hopes that a change in leadership can translate into success on the pitch and bring its long-held promotion ambitions closer to reality.
