A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), led by Ms. Makiko Okumura, Deputy Director General of JICA-Tokyo Centre, visited the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on Monday February 10th.

The visit aimed to monitor the activities of Kutamba Phoebe, a former participant of JICA’s Knowledge Co-Creation Programme (KCCP), and assess the programme’s relevance in addressing challenges in Uganda’s sports sector.

During their visit, the JICA team held discussions with FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim, FUFA CEO Edgar Watson, Football Development Executive Secretary Ronnie Kalema, and Deputy CEO-Football Decolas Kiiza.

The meetings focused on the impact of the KCCP and explored potential future collaborations between FUFA and JICA.

Other members of the delegation included Yamasite, Deputy Chief Representative of JICA Uganda Office, Kento Hongo, Programme Officer at JICA Tokyo Centre, and staff from JICA’s Uganda office.

The Knowledge Co-Creation Programme (KCCP) is a training initiative by JICA designed to enhance skills and knowledge in various fields, including sports development.

The programme provides participants, often professionals from developing countries, with opportunities to gain expertise in Japan and apply it to their home countries.

JICA’s visit to FUFA aligns with its commitment to ensuring that knowledge gained through KCCP is effectively utilized to improve sports administration, coaching, and infrastructure development in Uganda.

By engaging with FUFA, JICA aims to evaluate the programme’s impact and identify areas for further cooperation in strengthening Uganda’s football ecosystem.
