The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has named an 12-man squad for the decisive window of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers, set to take place from February 21st 2025.

The team, known as the Silverbacks, will feature seven home-based players alongside four professionals playing abroad.

A major boost for Uganda is the return of Ishmail Wainright, who missed the first window of the qualifiers.

His presence is expected to strengthen the squad, given his experience and versatility. However, the team will be without Arthur Kaluma, who remains unavailable due to academic commitments.

The squad includes experienced guards Jimmy Enabu, Tony Drileba, and Fayed Baale, as well as forward James Okello, who has been a key figure in Uganda’s recent campaigns.

Opong Robinson Odoch and Jonathan Komagum add depth, while Deng John Geu, a strong presence in the paint, will be crucial in the Silverbacks’ quest for victories.

Uganda currently holds a 1-2 record and must win at least two of their three games to stand a chance of qualifying for the 2025 AfroBasket in Angola.

They will begin their campaign against Cape Verde on Friday, February 21, followed by a clash with Nigeria on Saturday, February 22, before wrapping up against Libya on Sunday, February 23.

With Wainright back in the lineup and a mix of experienced and upcoming talent, the Silverbacks will be aiming for a strong finish in the qualifiers.

However, they must not only secure wins but also hope that Nigeria drops points to improve their qualification chances.

  • Jimmy Abraham Enabu
  • Tony Drileba
  • Fayed Baale
  • Ishmail Carzell Wainright
  • Ivan Muhwezi
  • Opong Robinson Odoch
