Denis Omedi was unable to continue his goal-scoring streak as APR were held to a 0-0 draw by Musanze in the first leg of their Peace Cup round of 16 clash at Ubworoherane Stadium on Wednesday.
Fresh from scoring a brace in APR’s 2-1 league win over Kiyovu Sports, the Ugandan forward started alongside compatriot Hakim Kiwanuka but found it difficult to break down a well-organized Musanze defense.
Both players featured for 60 minutes before being substituted as APR searched for a breakthrough.
The match was a cagey affair, with both teams battling for control in midfield and struggling to create clear-cut chances.
While Musanze dominated possession, APR looked more dangerous going forward, but goalkeeper Jean de Dieu Nsabimana denied them on multiple occasions.
Fellow Ugandan Taddeo Lwanga was named on the bench but did not feature.
APR will now turn their attention to the second leg, set for February 18-19, where they will need a win to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, in other Peace Cup fixtures, Nyanza FC stunned defending champions Police FC with a 1-0 win, while Rayon Sports edged Rutsiro FC 2-1.
