The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Capacity Building Program at Kabalega College in Masindi Municipality is in its final stages as participants approach the completion of their courses.
The program, which began on February 11, has brought together 94 participants, including students, teachers, and community members, all eager to develop their skills in sports officiating.
With the program set to conclude on February 15, participants have been undergoing intensive training in Football Refereeing, Volleyball Refereeing, and Netball Umpiring.
Football Refereeing has drawn the largest number of trainees, with 46 participants, followed by Netball Umpiring with 31 and Volleyball Refereeing with 17.
The sessions have combined theoretical lessons with practical exercises to ensure participants gain a well-rounded understanding of their respective fields.
According to officials, the program has been progressing smoothly, with participants demonstrating high levels of enthusiasm and commitment.
Masindi District Sports Officer, Mr. Isingoma Joseph, praised the trainees for their dedication and encouraged them to apply their newfound knowledge to improve sports officiating in their communities.
“The energy and determination we have seen from these participants is impressive. We are confident that they will use these skills to enhance the quality of sports officiating in their schools and beyond,” Mr. Isingoma noted.
As the final day approaches, participants are preparing for their certification, which will officially recognize them as trained referees and umpires.
USSSA officials have reiterated their commitment to supporting grassroots sports development through such programs, ensuring that Uganda continues to produce competent sports officials.
